Our History

Before the Cloud, Before the Click

Before schedules were synced and records lived in the cloud, time was marked by touch and sound— a crisp mechanical imprint, punched into card and memory alike. The Cincinnati Time Recorder stood at the threshold of every shift, every workday, every era.

A Legacy Born in Edison’s Era

Founded in 1896 with seed money provided by James Gamble, one of the founders of Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati Time Recorder was created to meet the growing demand for timekeeping in America’s booming manufacturing sector. Our legacy is deeply connected to the rhythm of American industry.

Even Thomas Edison, on his seventy-fourth birthday, marked the day by punching in alongside his employees. Visitors to Edison National Historic Site still view the time clock during their tour—an enduring symbol of honest work.

Innovation Through the Decades

Throughout the years, Cincinnati Time Recorder expanded its product lines and adapted to the times. From Cleartone Radios during the golden age of cinema to fuses and timers supporting the war effort during World War II, our products reflected both ingenuity and reliability.

An Enduring Commitment

While industries evolved and technologies advanced, Cincinnati Time Recorder has always remained true to its roots— designing and manufacturing world-class time recording equipment. Our history is more than a timeline; it is a testament to craftsmanship, precision, and trust built over generations.
